Soundcloud Special

This week we thought it would be refreshing to do something completely different and include all the songs that ARMYs love, that are not available on other platforms. Here is our playlist, it really was so much fun choosing amongst them.
Do you have a favourite song from this week’s playlist? Tell us on Twitter @BTSRadioUK

Ddaeng chosen by ARMY
Michayla - I had a sneaky feeling that Ddaeng would be the outright winner in the poll so I wasn’t surprised when it won! ARMYs are very fond of this song, released in 2018 as part of the ‘Festa’ celebrations. The song is a reply to the haters and negativity BTS received in the early years, performed by the rap-line, Namjoon (RM), Hobi (J-Hope) and Yoongi (Suga). ‘Ddaeng’ is the noise of a bell to signify a wrong answer, expressed perfectly in Hobi’s verse where he raps about all the things haters said:
Hip-hop? ddaeng
Rap style? ddaeng
Just rapper, ddaeng
Bangtan = ddaeng
And then his reply:
But reality, bang
Worldwide, bang
Above chart bang bang, ddaeng
Got money, woo
AP, woo
Nice house, woo
Someone's dream life, woo
How about you? Uh’
Ddaeng is a great song! It’s one of those songs you can’t fail to move to and is full of the attitude you would expect from the talented rap line of BTS.
Charlie - I am not surprised that this song won the poll; it will go down in history as one of the most iconic BTS hype songs. Its lyrics are a final diss track to the anti's, but one that says they do not care about them and will stop writing Cyphers for them. It uses traditional Asian sounds in a way that foreshadowed IDOL and also shows their pride for their heritage.
Eve - Ddaeng was released for BTS’ Fifth anniversary Festa, my first, the whole build-up of the Festa occasion was amazing enough but when Ddaeng was released, it was like the earth moved. The songs intention from the beginning is to catch you, in its grasp, shake you about and let you go for the wordplay in the lyrics to leave you breathless. This is a diss song, no confusion over that.  Each of the rap line, J-Hope, RM and Suga bring their individual rap styles together to create a song that will live on for a long time due to BTS’ fans love for the song.I personally love to turn this on loud in my ear phones when I have been thoroughly annoyed, and as you can imagine it gets played a lot in my daily life.

4 O’Clock - Charlie
4 O’Clock is a song that Namjoon and Taehyung wrote, produced and performed together (under the unit name R&V) as a part of the BTS Festa in 2017. Due to being a Festa gift for the fans, it is not available to buy. This is unfortunate, as it is a beautiful song and I would gladly pay money for it.
This song was born out of Namjoon and Taehyung joking about how there are no songs which open with Taehyung’s voice, and this song wonderfully rectifies this with Taehyung’s gorgeous honey vocals. His deep, raspy voice is evident as he sings “where are you” as is his beautiful accent when he sings in English. His voice is soothing, soft and low, reminding me of why I love it so much. It’s very calming and suited to the mood of the song.
“Following into the deep night
The sound of you singing
Brings the red morning
A step, and another step
The dawn passes”
After Taehyung sings until the end of the first chorus, Namjoon’s voice enters into the song. He was at first skeptical about singing in this song, but I am glad Taehyung encouraged him to. After Taehyung’s soothing notes, hearing Namjoon’s powerful and emotive voice which still somehow manages to calm me is a welcoming contrast.
In creating this song, Namjoon and Taehyung wanted to recreate the feeling of waiting for a friend in the park at dawn, with birds chirping and the day fading into night. Namjoon’s voice has always been very atmospheric and evocative of specific moods for me (“Reflection” makes me feel Autumnal; “Change” makes me feel inspired, etc.), and therefore he also succeeded in making me feel a certain way with his voice in this song. In order to grasp that feeling of the moon coming out at dawn, he sings a wonderful sequence of lines:
“The sun suffocates me
And the world strips me naked
I can’t help it, there’s no other way
I collect myself that’s shattered beneath the moonlight
I call you moonchild
We are children of the moon”
I love the word, “moonchild”, and I love that it makes a return as the title of a song in Mono. It is yet another perfect detail which adds to the time of day that the song aims to remind you of. This song does something that other songs try and fail to achieve; it transports me to the place that is sung about.

So Far Away (Suga, Jin & Jungkook) - Eve
So Far Away has always been one of my favourite songs from Suga’s solo E.P. under the moniker, Agust D. The version with Suran was powerful and full of meaning. The remixed version on SoundCloud with Jin and Jungkook, takes that song to another level.
The opening strings and piano lead into the cut back into Suga’s rap, full of emotion and feelings and then when Jin takes on the first part of the chorus leading into Jungkook’s equally amazing voice this song just transports me to another place. Suga is an amazing wordsmith, he takes feelings that people hide and feel ashamed to be feeling and he turns them into uplifting songs that hit you hard.
My friends, even my family are getting further away (Ay)
As time goes by, I'm becoming more impatient (Ay)
The feeling of being on my own
I am on my own right now, I want everything to disappear
I want it to disappear like a mirage
Want it to disappear
I want my damn self to disappear
Like this, the world throws me away (Ay)
In that moment I'm getting farther away from the sky
I’m falling (I’m falling)
This song helped me on many dark days when I felt alone, and unsupported. The part where Suga chants Dream lifts my spirits up and makes me like even though some days are tough, I’m going to keep dreaming.
Dream, I will be there for your creation until the end of your life (Ouu-uu-u)
Dream, wherever you might be, it will be lenient (Aa-ah-ahh)
Dream, you will fully bloom after all the hardships (Fully bloom)
Dream, though your beginnings may be humble, may the end be prosperous
The arrangement of the song is beautiful too, the ending takes you in a full circle ending with an amazing string and piano arrangement that gives me goosebumps.

2U (cover) - Michayla
This is one of my favourite covers of any song and I could not wait to write about it this week. Jungkook’s voice transports me to a place of serenity and calm, it has the most beautiful tone and he sings with such emotion. 2U was dropped onto Soundcloud on Jungkook’s birthday, 1st September 2017 as his present to ARMY, and what a gift it was.
This is a love song, a song about someone who is worth all the time and effort. That one true love who you would go to the end of the earth for:
‘No limit in the sky
That I won't fly for ya
No amount of tears in my eyes
That I won't cry for ya, oh no
With every breath that I take
I want you to share that air with me
There's no promise that I won't keep
I'll climb a mountain, there's none too steep’
The melody is so gentle, and you can really concentrate on the words because of the single piano in the background. The music is just so beautiful and enough to bring me to tears on its own, without adding Jungkook’s voice and the words into the mix. The chorus is probably my favourite part of the whole song because the words are really emotive and meaningful. The second line is such a dream and I don’t think I could ever tire of hearing Jungkook sing it:
‘When it comes to you, there's no crime
Let's take both of our souls, and intertwine
When it comes to you, don't be blind
Watch me speak from my heart
When it comes to you, comes to you’
If this isn’t a song you have heard before, I really would urge you to listen to our Soundcloud Special, playlist because I am sure there are many hidden gems on there, that you may not have heard before. 2U, (originally by David Guetta ft Justin Bieber) sung by Jungkook is indeed a gem, in fact it is a diamond of the highest quality and one that can’t be missed.
This is the song that I can close my eyes to, relax, hum along to the music and immerse myself in the words, sang beautifully by Jungkook. It is a song that is a romantic notion, gifted to ARMY by one of the sweetest souls, sung from the heart and felt in the heart to.
