Spotify - Jungkook Playlist

Jungkook - A Playlist

The final playlist is here, the 7th in a fantastic series that has seen a playlist created for each of the BTS members. Last, but by now means least is our themed playlist created with our golden maknae in mind.

Which songs remind you of Jungkook? Let us know on Twitter @BTSRadioUK and if you have any idea’s for future playlist themes, tweet us.

Waste It On Me & Heartbeat chosen by ARMY

Cheryl - (Waste it on me) So I believe the song is being sung to someone who is unsure about how they feel, perhaps they have been hurt in the past and Jungkook tries to give them hope and sings - that he’s no stranger to heartbreak and being let go and that he knows there is no making this right and that if love is nothing more than just a waste of your time, waste it on me.

This implies that he will never hurt the person hearing the song in anyway and I think this is what Army relate to - no one likes to get hurt and Jungkook is saying he won’t hurt the person he is singing to and the person listening to the song is probably an Army.

(Heartbeat) I believe this song is about how BTS would be if they hadn’t found Army and they compare this to how they feel now. They sing about what they were like before and how it is destiny in them and us meeting.

Jungkook sings about being a moon that rose at noon which I believe could be that he felt out of sync with the world, as if the timing was off.

Jungkook sings the chorus with V and Jimin and the words are - I wish you could love me like yesterday and don’t let go of this hand forever and how they want the footsteps to match so they do not go wandering, I assume this means they stay in step together and do not wander far apart.

These lyrics and the whole song are relatable to Army - there is such a strong bond which will be very hard to break.

Charlie - From "we both found each other tonight" to "my heart's on fire for your love", both of these heartfelt pop-style songs demonstrate Jungkook's sweet, airy vocals paired with, especially in the case of Waste It On Me, his adorable English. These are both songs that fit his voice well and allow him to flaunt high notes and adlibs that demonstrate his versatility spectacularly. The bridge in Heartbeat is a stand-out moment for me, as his vocals portray such bittersweet emotions in a way that is hard to explain. I feel that he pours all of his emotions and everything that he has into these songs. In the case of Waste It On Me, these are emotions of a desperation to be loved by someone who feels that love is doomed to fail, and Heartbeat is about begging someone to love you and believing that they will no matter what version of reality you are in, because it's destiny. Both songs have emotional and heart-wrenching themes, which Jungkook's beautiful voice conveys with such grace.

Michayla - We have never had 2 songs win the weekly poll before so it was certainly a surprise when both ‘Waste it on Me’ and ‘Heartbeat’ were neck and neck with 29% each. Both of these songs showcase the amazing vocals of Jungkook and as always there are so many emotions in his tone. He harmonises beautifully with the vocal line members and one verse in particular that stands out for me in Heartbeat, is the one he sings with Taehyung. Their voices are distinctly different yet the sound they create, together is incredible.

‘But my heart’s still on fire
With a burning desire
Gonna get you back like it’s destined’

‘Waste it on Me’ is of course a worthy winner of the poll since it is predominantly Jungkook and Namjoon who sing it. Listening to a song in English is a new experience for ARMY and even now when I hear it, I forget that I know the words and can sing along fully!

‘If love is nothing more than just a waste of your time, waste it on me

Eve - (Waste it on Me) The build up to this songs release was immense Steve Aoki was out there and he was building up the anticipation to the max. When we finally got to hear it and Jungkook’s beautiful voice began I was floored, the song on its own catches you with its hypnotic beat and electronic horn sound that comes in and out in the background.
It’s a song that I hold out hope we might see sung live one day, the RM and Jungkook duet we have been waiting for.

(Heartbeat) This song is an emotional roller-coaster, it’s beautiful, the lyrics, the meaning, the song production and the singing it leaves you wanting it to go on and on and you must remind yourself that it’s for a mobile game app.  The effort that BTS and their teams put into everything is incredible.

As for reminding me of Jungkook, I guess you have to mention the ‘My hearts on fire’ line that Jungkook delivers with perfect emotion and softness to make you hold your breath.

Euphoria - MIchayla

There are many songs that make me think of Jungkook but one in particular, for obvious reasons, stands out above the others. The most obvious reason being that, ‘Euphoria’ is his solo song from the Love Yourself series.

‘Euphoria’ means so much more than that though, from seeing Jungkook sat in a chair at the O2, singing his heart out, in what will always be one of the most emotional moments of my life, to watching as he literally sang whilst flying around Wembley stadium and the Stade de France. This song is also special to me because it is my ‘go to’ song, when life is piling negativity on and I need a focus.

I can’t begin to imagine the joy felt by Jungkook when he finally got to perform on UK soil in June after the events that meant he was unable to perform in October 2018.

We were gifted the most stunning version of Euphoria during the Festa celebrations this year which accompanied a video made by the members of BTS. If you haven’t seen it, please click on the link below because you will not be disappointed, you may need tissues though.

‘Euphoria’ is about happiness, that place everyone goes to which is their utopia, perhaps that place could be a person? It’s that moment when you are blissfully happy and you don’t want anything to ruin it…

Euphoria
Take my hands now
You are the cause of my euphoria
Euphoria
Close the door now
When I’m with you, I’m in utopia’

Dimple - Cheryl

Dimple (Illegal) is sung by the vocal line of BTS (Jin, Jimin, V and Jungkook). It is a song about Dimples belonging to a girl and how the sight of the dimples make them feel. The song was released in 2017.

Jungkook sings about how the dimples appear when the girl smiles and that this is so cruel.  He sings that the dimples are illegal and dangerous and that even though they are illegal, he wants them anyway. He wants to die in them, drown in them and says “You are my lake” and “it’s too dangerous to be in this world”.

I find Jungkook’s lyrics in particular remind me of a crush on someone whilst younger - whereby the feelings are so strong, powerful and new, that it can feel dangerous and illegal and overwhelming, therefore I was quite surprised to find the song was released in 2017 (only 2 years ago) as I thought it may have been an earlier BTS song - only because it has a sweetness and naivety about it (unlike an earlier song like Boy In Love released in 2014, which has a more urgent, raw feel about it). I also enjoyed the play on the word Illegal with Illegirl and again I felt like this is something a younger person might do.

Obviously, I am not saying that as we mature and get older we don’t have such strong feelings and emotions anymore but, I feel there is something cute and naive about having such strong feelings and emotions about dimples, even very cute ones.

I also think that the use of the backing vocals in the song also have a cuteness and naivety about them and Jungkook’s ad-libbing in the background is very complimentary to this song.

However, having watched the more recent performance of Dimple on YouTube - 5th Muster in Seoul - how the song has changed.  The lyrics maybe the same but the performance live is so different. Their voices are richer, deeper and more powerful and the choreography has more passion than I imagined it might.

I feel the song has a more sensual sound, their voices appear deeper and fuller, and the dance moves are hardly cute and naive. The song has become so much more passionate (in my opinion) including the ad-libbing and Jungkook’s high pitched note about 2.5 minutes in and their individual glances at the camera, well it all just confirms this.

Begin - Charlie

Not to be predictable, but I had to choose a Wings solo to write about. They were all musically stunning, but lyrically Jungkook’s solo, ‘Begin’, is so precious. Songs that tell a story are my favourites, and Jungkook’s solo tells the real story of his relationship with the members in a totally authentic and sweet way.

“When I was fifteen years old, I had nothing
The world was too big and I was small
Now I can’t even imagine now
I was scentless and completely empty
I pray”

‘Begin’ has much more of a pop feel to it than the other Wings solos, but I grew to appreciate it on an even higher level when I saw it performed live with Jungkook’s lightning-fast footwork. He hits the notes seamlessly as he moves so quickly, and it’s so impressive and makes me so proud to see the Golden Maknae shine so bright on stage.

However, when I hear this song, I cry because I realise over and over again that Jungkook is not just a multi-talented popstar who can sing and dance really well, but a young man who is very aware that his teenage years were taken up by training and being brought up by the older members, who he expresses gratitude towards in the song for how well they brought him up.

“Love you my brother, I’ve got brothers
I discovered emotions, I became me
So I’m me
Now I’m me”

The Wings solos as a whole made me become a true OT7 stan because they made me understand that each member had a story to tell, and they could write them well in such a heartfelt way. At the time of this song coming out, Namjoon revealed that Jungkook never cried, except when he saw his hyungs cry. This song is so bittersweet because whenever I read the lyrics, I imagine a young, wide-eyed Jungkook, not understanding why his hyungs are upset but keen to make them proud. “You make me begin” is such a beautiful phrase that carries so much meaning, when you realise that BTS really are a family that brought Jungkook up and made him the man he is today.

N.O - Eve

When I think about BTS songs that make me think of Jungkook, this one definitely has to be included.
The song was released as part of their first E.P. in September 2013, N.O was the lead single meant to catch the hearts and minds of Korea’s youth.
The song is a call to arms to say N.O to the seemingly oppressive expectations of parents, schools and society.  Told from an early age that to succeed in life is to study, study some more go to university and end up with a well paid respected job.
Dream is gone, no time to breathe
School, house and PC room is all we have
We live the same life
And have to become number one
For us it's like a double spy between dream and reality

Jungkook’s rap verse sums it up perfectly, their dreams have been taken, they are pressured to become number one in other peoples plans.
This was a running theme through BTS’ earlier E.P.s as it was something some members had to live through at some point in their lives and the beginning of realising their dreams.
N.O makes me think of Jungkook particularly because of the music video, it’s set in some kind of dystopian school.  Jungkook has the opening verse and he takes on the role of the member of the class that beats the expectations first leading the rebellion that leads to the group breaking free and running away from the oppression.
