Phase 2

Before we knew it, phase 1 was finished and we entered the 2nd phase of this extraordinary comeback. I knew this phase would be overshadowed by the release of ‘Ego’ on 3rd February but I was excited nonetheless.
21st January - Connect BTS: Buenos Aires. The photographs show the journey of a record breaking attempt to fly using only the sun and air. Tomas Saraceno is the artist and I will definitely be looking into this some more.
Connect, BTS
28th January - Connect BTS: Seoul. I was really looking forward to this one because I had hoped there would be something directly connecting BTS to the art. There were two artists showcased, the first Ann Veronica Janssens uses light to disorientate your spatial awareness. The photographs are fascinating and show people in the midst of a heavy colour haze.
The second artist, Yiyun Kang uses BTS as the theme for her exhibition and the photos on ‘Connect BTS’ are amazing. The website says: ‘Beyond the scene is the reimagination of BTS’s signature dance movements as seen through project mapping.’ I would like to see what else she has done and I really enjoyed looking at this on ‘Connect BTS’.
3rd February - Comeback trailer: EGO. 3pm. I was in a completely different mindset when EGO was released because I was sat at a football match. When my phone went crazy with the notifications I was completely surprised because I was all prepared for it the next day.
After getting over the initial shock and realising that this was happening, I watched it immediately and loved it. ‘EGO’ is Hobi… it would fit right onto ‘Hopeworld’ nestled next to the title track or ‘Daydream’. It is also ‘Just Dance’ 2020 and I cannot stress enough how ‘Hobi’ this track is. I managed to watch it a few times before kick off and couldn’t wait to get home and watch it on my TV.
4th February - Connect BTS: New York. This was really interesting because it is a sculpture being erected on Pier 3,Brooklyn Bridge Park, designed by artist, Antony Gormley from the UK. Titled ‘New York Clearing’, the piece will be seen against the Manhattan skyline and this is the first time it will be erected outside without architectural support.
These phases are exciting as each point is revealed. It feels like a BTS advent as we count down to the big album release and I do wonder how Big Hit will top this when it comes to the comebacks in the future.
