BTS World OST- Heartbeat MV review

7 Hearts, 1 Beat – Destiny’s the Key

Approximately 2 days ago (at the time of writing), BTS dropped their new global game. A game which ARMYs all around the world have waited seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and yes, years for; ‘BTS World’. And along with it, unexpectedly, appeared what seemed to be an original soundtrack (but that didn’t come from me, I was sworn to secrecy to not let anyone know about it). Then today (again at the time of writing), we were all blessed with an OT7 title track, ‘Heartbeat’. Not just the song in HD, on all music platforms (which by the way- stream it!), rather than in the lobby of the game, but also a music video. So therefore, my job today is to give you a review of this so highly spoken about music video. So, without further ado, ‘let’s get this bread’ (or rather music video)!
Like with any BTS song or music video, a story can be told. And with ‘Heartbeat’, like the song itself, the music video takes us on a journey: of what seems to be the 7 different worlds of 7 very different people. This music video, however, to me, struck a different chord. Perhaps it was because the music video is for the game and so the scenes in it were not real, or maybe because it’s not like the typical BTS music video with its hidden theories, but I definitely felt like we saw a different side.
The start of the music video, saw the following words: ‘If you were not there then, would we, who were just like a lonely island, shine as bright as now?’

In these three lines, whilst referring to the context to the game and the meaning behind the song, they can be seen to be referring to ARMY. Being that ARMY brought them together as well as the people around them through the earlier days.
The music video starts with BTS all in their own universe, with no knowledge of each other - but not necessarily unhappy with the life they’re living. Namjoon a struggling detective, Yoongi a university music student, Jin owning his own business, Hoseok a vet, Jimin a baker, Taehyung a farmer and Jungkook a taekwondo student. But throughout the music video from the start to the end, we see their current worlds reflected in many different ways. By the middle of the music video, we see that BTS though are still apart are closer to finding each other through the universe. The music video sees 7 planets that end up colliding into each other. Towards the second chorus of the song, in the music video, we see some of the members meeting (coincidentally) through events. With Namjoon bumping into Yoongi and Jungkook listening to Yoongi’s CD. But ultimately at the end, the universes collide and they meet to form BTS. Towards the end of the music video, we see them practicing for their debut, before being reflecting into them performing at stadiums, where they are now. Before ending looking at the members individual worlds again but this time, they are happy with where they are.

Looking at the music video as a whole, apart from the tears that were shed during the process of watching it, the message and story is very clear. BTS through the music, shows us their journey and the people that they could have been if they weren’t in BTS, but ultimately even if they were to be in these different worlds, destiny would bring them together in the end. For them, destiny’s the key to them being together. Why? Because even though they're 7 different people, their heart beats for the same thing.
7 Hearts, 1 Beat. Destiny’s the Key. It’s as simple as that.
