A Promise Made, A Promise Kept

I didn't expect it this year, but he surprised us all and finally did it.

Having been hinting about wanting to release a song of his own for a long time, Jimin took Army's by surprise today by releasing Promise on New Year's Eve (released midnight on 31st December in South Korea).

With cover art accredited to Vante, Taehyung captured Jimin perfectly.

The lyrics were written by Jimin & RM, and composed by Jimin and Slow Rabbit, the song is simple in its arrangement, with a beautiful guitar accompaniment in the background. The music does not overpower, and leaves Jimin's vocals to shine, clear and sweet.

He sings softly, a fragility, that you can hear the emotions behind the words; and it touches your soul. 

Posting on twitter after the release he writes:

Everyone, you've been waiting a long time for this right?

I'm finally releasing my self-composed track. It's a song for me, but it's also a song for you all.

Though I may be a bit lacking because it's my first, please listen to it.

Although it was a song for himself, he tells ARMY's that it is also for them. He sings a message of being your own light, and finding the strength to work through your troubles to love yourself. A pinkie promise to yourself that whatever may come, even if you are going through difficulties, you won't give up, that you wont throw yourself away, fight through it and love yourself.

According to SlowRabbit's Instagram post Jimin has been working on the song since April up until release. This shows just how dedicated Jimin was about creative process. To bring to us the best work possible.

“Since late April to the end of the year, Jimin has been writing melodies and correcting them continuously. During the recording for the guitar, he came too to share his opinions, and it was a song that was diligently prepared."

Always there to encourage and support his members Namjoon posted the following message on fancafe:

Not only has Jimin trended worldwide at no.1 on twitter with over 2 million tweets, but on Korea's popular music platform Melon as well.

Promise has also beaten Ddaeng's record of being the fastest BTS song to reach 1 million & 2 million streams within an hour of release!

The song has inspired the hashtag #약속challenge on twitter, ARMY's are posting pictures of their pinkie and making promises about themselves and BTS.

Promise is bringing the year 2018 to a close with a song that evokes such emotions in its simplicity, and promises of  us being positive about ourselves.
