Interlude: Shadow - Marsha Night
Interlude: Shadow

I can safely say,
Min Yoongi well and truly blew this out of the water for me!
"I wanna be a
rap star I wanna be the top, I wanna be a rockstar I want it all mine, I wanna
be rich I wanna be the king, I wanna be me I want a big thing. Oh boy let me
see I got a big dream yeah"
This brings me back
to "No More Dream" with "I want a big house, with big cars and
big rings..."
Is this a
reflection on where he is now comparing to where he was at the beginning of his
journey?
"I run but the
shadow follows As dark as the light’s intense I’m afraid, flying high is
terrifying No one told me How lonely it is up here..."
I interpret this as
his honest, raw truth thoughts as he rises with BTS in the spotlight, still not
sure he is worthy to be there but moving up all the same which is out of his
control.
"I rise, rise.
I hate it I pray, pray, hoping to be okay..."
I feel the
"Chorus" part is a direct call and response from "Intro:
Persona"
"Persona, who
the hell am I? I just wanna go, I just wanna fly. I just wanna give you all the
voices till I die, I just wanna give you all the shoulders when you cry"
Here RM (BTS) is
saying that he wants to rise high with ARMY, perform and keep the music going
till he is no longer able to like it is their destiny.
"Please don’t
let me shine, Don’t let me down, Don’t let me fly, Now I’m afraid. The moment I
face myself brought lowest It so happens that I’m flying the highest..."
This is the
opposite side of the coin, even though he wants the dream, the success and
fulfil that destiny, it's scaring him to a point where he doesn't want to go
higher because there is an untold loneliness and stress from being in the
spotlight.
"Who the hell
am I?"
The answer is your
own to interpret but in this case, Yoongi answers this question with:
"Yeah you
can’t escape, wherever you go I am you, you are me, now you do know You are me,
I am you, now do you know We are one body and we are gonna clash We are you, we
are me, this do you know..."
He seems to be
talking to himself, SUGA & Min Yoongi. One of the same yet two separate
personalities. Is it the realisation that these two personas are in fact
exactly who he is and he is beginning to accept it despite his fears?
The video shows the
many sides of Min Yoongi and the pressures he faces to be himself and
SUGA.
There are clear
indications that he feels watched no matter where he is and scrutinized at
every corner with every face and flash of a camera.
To summarise, this
song and its video has such a beautifully raw message of truth and is a real
grounding insight into his world as he sees it.
A fantastic and
thought provoking comeback. I cannot wait for what's to come, I feel this new
era will be a game changer!
